At a glance
Chumba is the long-running name in sweepstakes casinos, with a low 10 SC gift-card floor and several cash payout options. Its game library is small next to newer rivals, the state map keeps shrinking, and its owner VGW has paid out in more than one state legal action, so check where you live before you buy coins.
Great for
- Players who want small gift-card prizes from 10 SC
- Anyone who prefers a long-established operator with a track record
- Players who like a choice of cash methods (Skrill, bank, prepaid card)
Not ideal for
- Players in the 16 states where Chumba is closed or Gold Coin-only
- Anyone who wants a library of 1,000+ games
- Players who want a full native app on iPhone
Pros
- Gift cards from 10 SC
- Several cash routes: Skrill, Trustly bank transfer and a Chumba prepaid Mastercard
- Big first-purchase discount: $10 for a pack normally priced at $30
- Long track record compared with most sweepstakes brands
Cons
- Closed in six states and Gold Coin-only in ten more
- Smaller game library than most rivals
- Owner VGW paid New York $8 million in a 2026 settlement
- Identity checks can slow your first redemption

Our verdict on Chumba Casino
Chumba is the sweepstakes casino most people have heard of. It’s run by VGW, one of the oldest sweepstakes operators, and it offers gift cards from 10 Sweeps Coins and cash from 100 SC. The trade-offs are a smaller game library than newer rivals and a state map that has shrunk sharply since 2025.
Our hands-on test with a real account is still in progress, so there’s no AmeriSpin rating on this page yet. Everything below comes from Chumba’s own state page, the New York Attorney General’s settlement notice and reviews dated 2026, and each source is listed at the end.
Welcome offer and free coins
- Free on sign-up: 2,000,000 Gold Coins (GC) and 2 Sweeps Coins (SC). No purchase or promo code needed.
- First purchase: $10 for 10,000,000 GC and 30 SC, a pack reviews say is normally priced at $30.
- Daily login: a login bonus that grows over a seven-day streak. Reported amounts differ between reviews, so check the lobby for today’s figure.
- Playthrough: Sweeps Coins must be played once (1x) before they can be redeemed.
Gold Coins are for fun only and can’t be redeemed. Sweeps Coins are the prize currency, at 1 SC = $1 in prize value. You never have to buy coins to play, and buying them doesn’t change your odds.
Redeeming prizes
- Gift cards: from 10 SC, delivered by email through Prizeout, usually within a business day.
- Cash: from 100 SC by Skrill, Trustly bank transfer or the Chumba prepaid Mastercard. Most reviews quote one to three business days, though some players report waits of up to 10 days.
- Identity check: expect to upload a government photo ID, proof of address and a selfie before your first redemption. One October 2026 review reported the check took about five business days.
One older 2026 review listed a higher 50 SC gift-card minimum. The two most recent sources we found both say 10 SC, so we use that figure.
Games and apps
Chumba is a slots-first site. Reviews from mid-2026 count roughly 200 to 250 games, including jackpot slots, scratch cards, instant-win games, a few table games and a small live section. Studios named in 2026 reviews include Relax Gaming, ReelPlay, Playtech, Slotmill, Red Tiger and NetEnt, plus Chumba-only titles.
That’s a small library by today’s standards; several rivals list over 1,000 games. On mobile, Chumba runs mainly in the browser. Reviews describe a Chumba Lite app with Gold Coin play only and no redemptions, and they disagree about whether Android has a fuller app.
Where you can play
When AmeriSpin checked Chumba’s own state availability page on October 25, 2026:
- Closed: Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, Montana, Nevada and Washington.
- Gold Coin play only (no prizes): California, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Most of the Gold Coin-only states are ones that now ban sweepstakes casinos or where VGW phased out Sweeps Coins during 2025 and 2026. Oklahoma’s ban takes effect November 1, 2026. We had not seen a Chumba exit notice for Oklahoma when we wrote this, but the law covers every sweepstakes casino, so Oklahoma players should redeem any balance now.
Third-party lists vary. One October 2026 review lists more excluded states, including Florida and Illinois, which Chumba’s page did not show when we checked. The map below uses our latest check.
Is Chumba Casino legit and safe?
- Who runs it: VGW, the group behind Chumba, Global Poker and LuckyLand Casino. VGW closed its LuckyLand Slots site in September 2026 to focus on its other brands.
- Track record: Chumba has paid prizes for years and is the benchmark many newer sites copy.
- Verification: strict ID and address checks before redemption, which protects accounts but can slow your first payout.
- Legal history: VGW has settled state legal actions, covered in the next section.
- Age: 21+. Chumba previously accepted players from 18.
VGW’s 2026 New York settlement
On September 9, 2026, New York’s Attorney General announced that VGW will pay $8 million to settle claims that Chumba, Global Poker and LuckyLand Slots broke state gambling law. VGW neither admitted nor denied the findings. None of the money goes to players.
The agreement does help some New Yorkers. If you held Sweeps Coins on June 2, 2025, when VGW stopped offering them in New York, and didn’t receive its phase-out notice, you can ask to redeem them until August 31, 2027. As of October 10, 2026, no request form had been published, so contact Chumba support directly.
VGW also settled an earlier Kentucky class action over Chumba and LuckyLand for $11.75 million, without admitting wrongdoing. Its claims deadline passed in March 2023.
Terms worth knowing
- You must be 21 or older.
- One account per person, and your payment method must be in your own name.
- Sweeps Coins have a 1x playthrough before they’re redeemable.
- Location rules apply: you can’t play for prizes from a closed or Gold Coin-only state, and using a VPN breaks the rules.
