Questions about sweepstakes casino laws

Are sweepstakes casinos legal?

Yes, in most of the US. Sweepstakes casinos operate under sweepstakes law because there's always a free way to play. But 13 states ban them outright, and regulators in 11 more are taking action against operators.

Which states ban sweepstakes casinos?

As of Oct 31, 2026: California, Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Washington.

Is it illegal for me to play from a banned state?

Most state bans target the operators, and casinos block players from banned states themselves. Don't try to get around a casino's location checks: it breaks their terms, and they can close your account and void any prizes.

Does a state allowing sweepstakes casinos mean every casino accepts me?

No. Each casino sets its own list of accepted states, and many skip states that are only considering a ban. Check the casino page on AmeriSpin, or the casino’s own terms, before you sign up.
