Prediction markets: who gets to regulate them?
Kalshi and Polymarket's US app are regulated by the federal CFTC, which says states can't ban them. A growing number of states disagree, and the courts are splitting.
- Sept 25, 2026. The Sixth Circuit ruled Ohio and Tennessee can apply their gambling laws to Kalshi's event contracts.
- Ninth Circuit. Ruled Kalshi needs a Nevada gaming license; sports markets are not live there.
- Oct 20, 2026. Utah sued Kalshi, calling its yes/no contracts sports bets.
Can you trust these casinos?
Yes. A casino only makes this list if it meets every one of our standards. If one slips, it comes off.
- A free way to play is always available, with no purchase needed
- Prize redemption rules are written down and easy to find
- Prize redemptions have a track record of being paid, and we look into unresolved payout complaints
- Customer support is easy to reach by email or live chat
- The operator is a named, registered company with a published legal address
Keep it fun. Set a limit before you play, and never buy coins to chase losses. If gambling stops being fun, free and confidential help is available 24/7: call or text 1-800-MY-RESET.
Tools and self-exclusionSweepstakes casinos: your questions answered
What is a sweepstakes casino?
A sweepstakes casino lets you play casino-style games, such as slots, with two kinds of virtual coins. Gold Coins are just for fun. Sweeps Coins come free with sign-up bonuses, daily logins, mail-in requests and some coin purchases, and in states where it's allowed you can redeem them for prizes like gift cards or cash. Because there's always a free way to get Sweeps Coins, these sites run under sweepstakes law rather than gambling licenses.
What is a social casino?
A social casino is a free-to-play casino game where you play with virtual coins that can't be cashed out. Many people use "social casino" and "sweepstakes casino" for the same sites, because most sweepstakes casinos also have a social, coins-only mode. The difference is the prize side: only sweepstakes casinos let you redeem coins for real prizes.
Are sweepstakes casinos legal in my state?
Sweepstakes casinos are legal in most US states, but 13 states ban them, and more are acting against them. Each casino also sets its own list of accepted states. Pick your state above, or check our state law board, to see where you can play.
How do you pick the best sweepstakes casinos?
A casino has to meet all of our listing standards before it can be ranked: a free way to play, clear redemption rules, a record of paying prizes, reachable support and a named operator. We then rank them on offers, redemption speed and limits, games and the number of states they accept. No casino can pay for a place in the top 10.
Can I win real money at sweepstakes casinos?
In states where prize play is allowed, you can redeem Sweeps Coins for gift cards or cash once you meet the casino's minimum, which is usually 10 to 100 Sweeps Coins after playing them through once. Coin purchases are real spending, so set a budget first and treat any prize as a bonus.
